Background
A while back I put together some rules for a PvE style kill race in the open world mode of Call of Duty Modern Warfare III's zombies. The idea is to allow players in a large community with drastically different skill levels to compete asynchronously. Gun skill is a factor, but so is strategy and familiarity with the mode. It was a fun exercise and I hope more people have the chance to give it a try.
Intro
Modern Warfare III Zombies is a vertical extraction format PvE multi squad experience, placing a team of up to three operators in the war torn and undead infested country of Urzikstan. Stomp as many undead as possible within the time limit to score points for your team. Boot up your stream, throw on some music, and get twisted farming hordes of undead bots in the most vibey competitive experience possible.
Standard Rules
The following rules are in place for all variants.
Equipment
PC, PS5, XBOX Series S or X are permitted - Cross Play Matches are possible
Input Devices: Keyboard and Mouse and Controllers are permitted
Players may not use a Turbo controller or a Button Macro controller
Turbo controllers allow Players to press a button that results in their Character performing a set of actions that would normally require the Player to press the same button multiple times.
Button Macro controllers allow Players to press a button that results in their Character performing a set of actions that would normally require the Player to press multiple buttons.
At administrations discretion the game is subject to being replayed with the suspected player being required to record their activity.
Loadout
Players may bring in a loadout that includes:
Any field upgrade, lethal, and tactical
Any one insurance weapon or contraband gun of their choice (second armament slot should be empty)
Backpack/rucksack, plate carrier, one skill streak, and self revive kit in the default slots for their operator
All rucksack slots should remain empty! NO perks, aether tool rarity upgrades, or pack-a-punch crystals can be brought into the map. Players must find weapon upgrades during each round
Scoring
Zombie Kills: 1 Point
Mercenary Kills: 2 Point
Successful Extraction: 250 Points
Match Conclusion
The match is concluded when all players are dead or have exfiltrated.
Player Death Revives
While a single player is alive (or downed with self revive - potential to regain life), any full dead team member who is revived will be allowed to continue the match. This includes revives by other teams of operators, whether competing in the tournament or randomly matchmade squads). To be clear, if all three players are full dead then the match ends immediately and third party intervention is not valid, but if a single competitor is standing they may use the in-game match chat or proximity comms to plead for third party assistance.
Exfiltration
If an operator calls the extraction helicopter, they must board it or wait for another team member to call the helicopter. Each operator may only call the extract chopper once. Griefing by calling the extraction helicopter repeatedly will result in an automatic forfeit.
Host
Teams will take turns hosting matches in most formats. In odd man tournaments, the odd man will not host. In 1v1v1 formats, the hosts will be chosen in the order of player check-in. Teams may elect to not swap hosts upon mutual agreement.
Variants
The following common variants may be considered depending on the number of teams involved. All variants other than open play will involve bracket play and multiple rounds.
1v1v1 Kill Race
Operators compete for the highest score over two matches with the highest scoring operator winning and progressing to future rounds. Operators may choose to stay together or play separately on the map and may extract or choose not to extract separately. Odd Man Out
In this variant, paired teams of three drop into the warzone in a head to head kill race format. Each team swaps one member with the other team to play the map. The odd man out in each squad can steal kills, items, or vehicle driver positions but may not otherwise interfere with the opposing duo. Both teams will play the same number of drops as specified by the tournament organizer. Operators are not required to extract together.
Open Play (1,2, or 3 Player Teams)
Teams of one, two, or three players compete for the highest score over a specified number of games or time period.
Marathon / Spartan Run
In this individual variant, operators must rush to a specified location within the Tier 3 island zone. The player who submits the fastest time from Insertion to the specified location wins. Operators must stream their entire run and submit an unedited clip of the run. Operator must be alive and not downed when entering the specified finish area.
Vehicles are not allowed
Self Revives are not allowed
Distraction tactical equipment are not allowed (Kazmir, Monkey Bomb, Decoy)
Gliding into a higher zone is not allowed (you may not glide from Tier 1 into Tier 2/3 or Tier 2 to Tier 3)
Optional Rules
Final Countdown - Teams must use the final extraction location after the others have timed out
Max Max - Teams must deploy to the warzone without any weapons, tacticals, or lethals, only field upgrades and vehicle kills are permitted
Naked and Afraid - Operators may not bring in any weapons and must find guns during the map
Ninja Turtles - Teams may only use melee weapons and throwables, no guns
Sticks and Stones - Crossbow, throwing knife/axe, and melee only. No Field upgrades, killstreaks, or other equipment.
