🥃Review #87: Four Roses Single Barrel - OBSV

Four Roses has long been praised for the quality and consistency of its single barrel editions. They currently release a number of their ten recipes as single barrels, but this is from the original OBSV recipe "standard" bottling that is most prevalent. If you're not familiar with Four Roses recipe codes they follow a structured format: Distillery - "O" for all recipes, meaning distilled at Four Roses Distillery Mash Bill - either "B" (60% Corn, 35% Rye, 5% Barley) or "E"(75% Corn, 20% Rye, 5% Barley) Straight Whiskey - "S" for all editions Yeast Strain - V(Delicate Fruit), K(Spice), O (Rich Fruit, Q(Floral),or F(Herbal). The combination of the two mashes and five yeasts yields 10 possible variations. If your head isn't already spinning, Four Roses also includes the exact warehouse aging location for each single barrel. This one is from Rickhouse TS and has the code 49-3C which means rick/row number 39, tier 3 (height), and pos...

🥃Review 55: Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon

Joining a stalwart lineup of commendable Single Barrels, a wallet friendly Yellow Label, stunning limited editions, and the polarizing Small Batch Select , Four Roses Small Batch has been the brand's go-to everyday sipping whiskey since its introduction in 2006. From a product design standpoint, it is intended to be easy drinking with broad mass market appeal. It has earned numerous Gold Metals across an assortment of spirits competitions and has one of the most pleasing bottle shapes I have ever seen. Though "Small Batch" is not a regulated term, I have anecdotally seen it mentioned that Four Roses aims for around 250 barrels per batch.  🛒 Sourced:  $29.99 - 750ml - Costco Perimeter, GA - Most big box stores will have this pegged at $30 and I've never seen it above $35. 🧪 Proof:  90 proof, 45% ABV  🎨 Color:  R3  - a sunny runny egg yolk orange-brown 🥔 Mash Bill:  Four Roses Small batch is a blend of 4 of Four Roses' 10 mash bills in undisclosed ra...

🥃 Review 33: Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon

Known far and wide for their Single Barrels and limited releases, Four Roses is famous for having 10 excellent recipes across two mash bills from which to create reliably exceptional blends. Master Distiller Brent Elliott works with these like an artist with paints to create the 80 proof Four Roses mainstay, 90 proof Small Batch, and 104 Proof Small Batch Select . 📚 Background: Four Roses Small Batch Select has garnered some fantastic rating at spirits shows the world over. While it sometimes get's overshadowed by the warehouse location mania for the slightly cheaper 100 proof single barrel, this bottle is a something of a cult classic for Four Roses aficionados, and good lord does it have plenty of awards! All of these awards - just in 2023! I love the bottle design from the black label to the raised glass four roses logo and carved cork. It feels downright classy. 🛒 Sourced:  $49.99 Costco, GA 750ml  I would note that this is a significant step up from Four Roses Small Bat...
