☕Review - Black & White x Cometeer Original Light

Black & White x Cometeer Original Light in cup with pod

Designed to highlight the "bright and playful" side of specialty coffee, Original Light is Black & White Roasters house SO preserved through Cometeer's concentrate and freezing process. Black & White Coffee was founded by Kyle Ramage and Lem Butler who won back-to-back United States Barista Championships in 2016 and 2017. The Roaster features a lovely geometric panda logo design. An Ethiopian single-origin, Original Light follows the classic flavor profile of the region, emphasizing reasonable acidity and delicate aromatics. Check our more in a YouTube video on the collab.

If you are not familiar with Cometeer's process, they use a precision brew system to make a strong coffee, 400ish pounds of bean at a time, concentrate at roughly 10x final strength that is then flash frozen at -321 degrees. They typically work with Roasters individually to perfect the settings for each brew.

🔥Roast Level: Light, Washed

🧪Brew Method: Cometeer Pod, 5.5oz water to one pod ratio. Water heated with kettle and let sit for two minutes post boil. Mild mechanical agitation.

👃Nose: Fruit forward with light citrus, grapefruit, with pomegranate and blueberry.

👅Flavor: Thinner that I typically brew - may have benefitted rom stepping down to 4.5oz of water or less (when doing so you'll need to pre-heat/melt the pod to avoid cold coffee, which I do by putting it on the electric kettle spout). A mild amount of brown roast with some peapod on the fore palate deepen into the traditional Ethiopian notes from the nose.

🏆 Score: 3.5/5 - Good, Solid at home Ethiopian - I think at full dilution this on leaves a little to be desired but is a well crafted roast with good quality beans. For a cup you'll always get right at minimal headache, Black & White's Original Light preserved by Cometeer does a solid job.

💵Would buy again? Sure, though there are others that would be my priority.

One of Monster Energy's newer variety packs, this set features Blue Hawaiian, Fantasy Ruby Red, & Vice Guava and seeks to continue on the success of the White Monster Ultra Zero. They have the same high carbonation, featuring tiny bubbles for an effervescent mouthfeel, and citrus flavor focal point, but each ads a special fruited twist. Flavor Ultra Blue Hawaiian - Pineapple dominates an undercurrent of coconut in this Monster twist on a tropical punch. Some batches have seemed to be a bit under carbonated but this variety pack edition doesn't have that issue. Strong pineapple aftertaste and juice reminiscent mouthfeel. Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red - Officially Fresh Pink Pamplemousse, Fantasy Ruby Red delivers the grapefruit you'd expect along with blood orange and tangerine, reminiscent of the white monster but with an additional buff to the citrus and slightly more substantial texture. Hand selected by legendary father-son master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon is renowned for its quality and can still be found more widely than some of the high age stated special releases. Russell's Reserve barrels are pulled from the center cut, the middle 3-5 floors of Wild Turkey's 7-story rickhouses, which get a good balance of fluctuations in temperature and humidity. They don't give much more info beyond that, but if you're interested in Wild Turkey's laser codes you can sus out a few more details. These codes etched into the back of the bottle just a smidge above the base. LA NA20E1339 - LA codes started in 2024, A20 is January 20th bottling, N is 2025 (M was 2024 - sequential alphabetical), E bottling machine and time of day 1:39PM. 🥃Review 92: 1.75L Costco's Kirkland Kentucky Bourbon 2026

Costco has historically worked with Barton 1792 for it's bourbon line, putting out a small batch , bottled-in-bond , and single barrel edition in liter bottles in waves over the last few years. This new 1.75L edition debuted in Spring of 2026 and mysteriously lacks a named distiller. The label proudly states that it was distilled and aged in Bardstown, Kentucky before being bottled in Columbia, Tennessee by DC Flynt MY Domaines & Estates (never heard of them). Flynt appear to be more wine focused and have led a number of wine bottlings for Costco historically in addition to some Gins. Distilleries at scale in Bardstown include Jim Beam, Barton 1792, Heaven Hill (though primary production is at Bernheim in Louisville), Lux Row, Willet, and Bardstown Bourbon Company. I doubt it is Barton 1792 since they proudly label their existing collaboration and I suspect it may be a producer without a 1.75L bottling line (would justify the move better than just adding logistics for ...

As a habitual caffeine abuser, I have a soft spot for Monster, both for their expansive lineup of flavors as well as their support for Sports and E-sports.
