Cometeer - klatch Coffee Colombia Decaf pod and box

A Cometeer pod version of klatch's Columbia Single Origin Decaf which is sourced from local farmer's co-ops in the Huila region of Columbia. It is decaffeinated through an ethyl acetate process which solvent bonds to caffeine molecules, rinsing the lightly steamed beans over eight hours in cycles until no more caffeine can be detected. In this case, the solvent is made from ethyl acetate created by fermenting sugarcane. As opposed to the Swiss water process, this is viewed as more natural by some and can preserve the coffee bean's natural sweetness and fruited notes. Beans are then washed again, steamed, polished, and dried for export.

If you are not familiar with Cometeer's process, they use a precision brew system to make a strong coffee, 400ish pounds of bean at a time, concentrate at roughly 10x final strength that is then flash frozen at -321 degrees. They typically work with Roasters individually to perfect the settings for each brew.

👅Flavor: Very Bright with plenty of plum, black cherry, and semi-sweet chocolate. Flavors are well rounded and show reasonable strength and layering. Roasted maltiness towards the finish doesn't take away from the fruit which persists throughout. No evidence that this is a decaffeinated coffee in terms of taste, though it may be a little lighter of body.

🏆 Score: 4/5 - Great - With plenty of complexity and very true to it's Columbian origin, this klatch-Cometeer collaboration does a great job of giving you the expected craft coffee experience at home.

💵Would buy again? Absolutely, one of the better decafs I've ever had.

The 2025 release of Costco's Kirkland 15-year Highland Scotch hit shelves in late January and is a recurring installment on an annual cadence. The first pallet to hit my local store sold out almost immediately. Thankfully, we got two more shipments at one pallet each that hung around a bit longer and I was able to snag a bottle. 🥃 Review #40: Kirkland Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (2024)

Like Costco's other Scotches, the Kirkland Signature Islay Single Malt is bottled for Alexander Murray and imported by MISA Imports after being distilled and aged in Scotland (TTB.gov plant registry TX-I-1277). The isle of Islay is one of the southern most islands in Scotland and is one of the five whisky regions ensconced in law. There are only nine active distilleries on the island, and the Islay style is typified by strong peat or smoky flavors. As a single malt, we know that the juice in this bottle comes entirely from one of those nine! All of the distilleries are significantly smaller than Glenlivet and many of the mainland producers. Taste testing has people split between Caol Illa, Bruichladdich (Port Charlotte), and Bunnahabhain as being the source.
